All I have to say is WOW! I am impressed with what our members have been doing for the community.
Mark Smith, an active Surfrider member and supporter continues to rally volunteer surfers- especially to help kids with Autism. Here a few more volunteer opportunities:
-Some of our friends from Surfers Healing are paddling around Manhattan. Although the event is today you still have time to donate. Help them reach their goal of raising $300,000. They are so close! The website is:

-Imatters Surf camp needs some help this Saturday at Cupsogue beach in Westhampton. If you can make it please bring softtop boards if you have them.
-The next date for Land + Sea sports club will be August 22 at Gilgo beach at 8 AM.
President Katie wants me to tell you that…
-The Life Rolls On event will take place on Aug 28th on 90th Street, Rockaway Beach, NY
-And, Surfrider will be hosting a cleanup/potluck dinner next Saturday 6pm at Gilgo. No charge to get in and bring something tasty.
-Also… the 22nd Annual Bunger Surf Classic at Gilgo Beach will take place on Sunday August 14th. Check out the Bunger Surf Cam page for more information.
Surfrider will be there liquidating our awesome t-shirts. Great shirts for a great price- get some.
In this crappy economy, make sure you are supporting local and surfer-owned businesses. For the new website, I want to compile a new list of surfer-owned and Surfrider-member businesses. Send me an e-mail with ones you know.
Right now Rick's Surf Shop in East Islip is also having a liquidation sale, so check that out. I'll be heading over there later.
And finally, a food recommendation: If you haven't checked out Bubba's Burrito Bar in Islip (Main Street) please do so. The place is surf-centric, they use environmentally sound materials, and they serve great beers such as Imperial from Costa Rica. I love their steak tacos (in the homemade hard shell). Check it out.
